Background

She's a girl from the streets.  No mother, no father, no prospects, no past, no future; Maria has nothing but her name and a story to tell.  Getting that story may be a problem, as she isn't from the PC's home area and won't speak the local language, but that will eventually be worked around.

The very short version of her story (the one that passes over about fifteen years of poverty and misery) goes like this: she was living on the street and she met this really nice guy who treated her all right, taught her to read and play the flute and made her feel special.  The guy had to go away after a while, though - somebody was chasing him - so he sent Maria to the PCs in order to keep her safe.  She's going to be staying with them for a while; if this was a problem, she's got a note (addressed to one of the PCs).  The handwriting on the note will be instantly recognizable to any angel - but even if it wasn't, Maria will readily tell anyone who asks that her boyfriend's name was Eli, and the Truth of that will knock down any Seraph unwise enough to resonate without taking precautions.

Needless to say, the party will probably not be able to discover why the Archangel of Creation had decided to send to them his 15-year-old Child of the Grigori girlfriend, but given the amounts of trouble that Maria can quite innocently cause, that may not be the most burning issue involved.  Maria is sweet, nice, friendly, surprisingly educated for her social status - also light-fingered, cheerfully suspicious of just about everybody, at first unaware of (and later just not caring about) the existence of statutory rape laws and generally a fish out of water until well after she learns the local language.  All of this would not be so bad, but no-one's ever explained to Maria why it's a bad idea to spend Essence and perform Songs without heed to the consequences, which means that she'll quickly attract unfavorable attention (from the Game to the Inquisition, in fact).  In other words, the combination of Maria's natural talent for seeking out trouble and the realities of the War should give any given party of PCs quite a bit to do for a while.
