That's why they call it a cover identity. A very good
one, too, don't you think? I mean,
you're still trying to wrap your
mind around the notion, even now. Did
you really think that Heaven had no guile of its own, or perhaps that it lacked
the collective will to take advantage of the unconscious prejudices of both
humanity and the Main Enemy? Or that
Heaven judges human actions and worth on your scale of morality, or even
the scales of some of its most enthusiastic boosters? Or that, in the aftermath of the First
Incursion, when the assembled Seraphim Council stood bloodied but unbowed in
their holiest chamber and collectively vowed to ward humanity from a resurgent
Hell, though it meant their deaths - did you think that there was some sort of
unofficial "but not if it means being tacky about it" codicil
implied?
Perhaps you did, at that. Amazing what one amateur pornographic movie
can do. In this case, it has cemented her
reputation as being a typical pseudo-celebrity with flabby morals and flabbier
taste. Not trustworthy, to be sure - but
also not a threat in any meaningful sense of the term. And certainly not someone
