Angel of Bards: As Angel of Bards, Aphra always knows what song or story a person wants most to hear. Performing it for him or her is worth 1 Essence. Aphra may perform this Rite three times per day.
Ah, Aphra. Such a contrast to her "brother" Carlos: brash where he is subtle, shouts where he would whisper, bawdy where he would be restrained. You would never realize that they were "related", until you hear both of them sing. Then you would understand quite well.
Like Carlos, Aphra has had her word since the Middle Ages. However, while Carlos was in the castles, encouraging romantic poetry and music, Aphra was in the inns and barracks below, doing her best to get everyone pounding on a table in time with the song. Romance is all very well, but getting humans to smile and forget their troubles has always been her meat and drink.
Aphra's a bit of legend among the Host as the Creationer's Creationer. She drinks like a fish, is absolutely fearless, and is as widely known for her love affairs as Carlos, although said affairs weren't precisely chaste (to put it mildly). She gets away with it because … she's Aphra. There are precisely three angels out there who can compare with her musical and singing abilities: her brother, Israfel, the Angel of Music, … and the long-lost Archangel of Song. It's not so much her technical ability, although she's certainly perfect in that regard … she simply has that ability to open her mouth, or take out an instrument, and instantly make everyone else quiet down and lean forward in anticipation.
Since Eli's disappearance, Aphra has served Michael (who was as eager to get her as Laurence was to snare her brother. In fact, it's said that the two Archangels actually collided with each other in their haste to get to the two before anyone else). She spends a lot of time in the Groves, but makes it a point to get down to earth regularly and sample any new popular musical trends. In contrast to her brother, the eagerness of Aphra's new boss to sign her up is quite understandable: the angel and her new audience are perfectly suited for each other.
Rude whispers about Michael having more …personal… reasons aside, of course.
