"Shrug this one off…"

The Prince of the War is always looking for that special edge, something that will break open the War once and for all: that's the justification for the procedure below. You get three guesses to determine if that's his True reason, and the first two don't count.

Every so often, Baal likes to sponsor a demon for a special Word. Saminga, Belial (and lately, Nybbas and Furfur) always support him in this, for reasons that will shortly become obvious. The demon's never from the same Band twice, and has never been more than 12 Forces. Other than that, they've run the gamut in skills, Songs, Attunements: the oddest types, really. The new Word-Bound is feted, made much of by the Media and the War, and is generally treated quite well... just before they get assigned to Corporeal duty. That's when the problems start.

The Word, you see, is Invulnerability.

There isn't a self-respecting Servitor of the War Faction, or any Malakite, who can resist taking a crack at this one. As many cracks as it takes. The careers of every Demon of Invulnerability have been very dramatic, very bloody... and very, very short. Needless to say, the cameras are taking it all in: it's amazing what a motivated demon will do to stay alive, and often their tricks will get posthumously enshrined in the Book. It's also primo entertainment (Nybbas doesn't even have to worry about royalties!).

No demon has lasted more than three months, but their collective sacrifices for Hell has paid great dividends. Heaven enjoys the experience too, actually: Mike and Larry get to periodically try out wacky new strategies, and the lessons they learn end up in their Book. Plus, it's yet another way to handle various angelic pecking orders: some groups don't consider you seriously badass until you've taken down a demon of Invulnerability.

Really, everybody's happy, except for the Word-bound, of course... and any poor schmucks caught up for the ride (Baal will not look benignly on anyone caught refusing his test subject aid. A Word-bound is a Word-bound. Just because he gets to screw someone over doesn't mean that anyone else can, too). Gee, I really hope that doesn't happen to anyone you know...
