Plastic Pink Flamingoes... OF DOOM!!!!!
One of the nice things about being the consort of an
Archangel is that getting funding becomes a whole lot easier. Actually, it's no longer really 'getting
funding'; it's more like 'acquiring a whole staff dedicated to taking your
random musings and making them real, in the face of all logic and common
sense'. It's heady stuff, to be
sure. Possibly too heady, which is why
Francis does his best to not abuse the privilege.
Usually.
Plastic Pink Flamingoes... OF DOOM!!!!! are
designed to track and locate demons, and do that job quite well - which is
quite a trick, seeing as they actually can't move. But then, they don't have to: others do it for them. A clever bit of metaphysical engineering
makes a PPFOD irresistibly fascinating to those recently affected by a demonic
resonance: that person will feel the strong urge (Will Roll -2) to quietly
steal the flamingo and place it on his or her lawn or closest equivalent. The person will keep the flamingo until a
week has passed without a demonic resonance being used on him or her. At that point, the PPFOD will be thrown away
- but they're nigh indestructible, so eventually somebody will be driven to
pick up the blessed thing. Celestials
are immune to this fascination, by the way: on the other hand, this is just
barely an artifact (recognizing one on first sight/touch requires a Perception
-2 roll, with no bonus for appropriate Forces).
The idea behind all of this is that, given
sufficient numbers of PPFOD (coastal New Jersey was blanketed with twenty
thousand of them in the latest test run), a fair number of them will end up
parked on the lawns of people being regularly resonated by demons. A larger number of them will more or less
congregate in neighborhoods regularly visited by demons. The whole bunch of them can provide
fascinating statistical data about demonic migration patterns, at least
according to Lightning's social scientists.
Everybody else just keeps a hopeful eye on PPFOD that stay in one place
for a while... or else look for reports of specific acts of mass vandalism.
